Children’s Party Checklist

Arranging a children’s party can be a hectic and stressful process. With so much to think about, from choosing the right party games to deciding which music is cool, it’s easy to forget the fact that kids will create their own fun with or without your help.

Kids Parties

Here is a checklist of things to remember when planning a child’s get together:

Invitations

Don’t rely on invitations alone. It is always worth contacting parents up to two weeks before the scheduled date as to avoid disappointment. However, it may be worth getting your child involved in the designing of the invitations.

Party Bags

You can’t please everyone and it’s worth remembering this when putting your party bags together. Organising separate bags for boys and girls, although an excellent idea, will not always please the majority. The usual arguments about toys and sweets will no doubt occur so it may be worth keeping them the same.

Food

We are all aware that sugary food will overstimulate our children, making then hyperactive, moody and uncontrollable. There is no need to completely avoid sweets and sugary foods at a party; however it may be worth saving these for the party bags at the end. There are a number of foods that are suitable though, such as pizzas, sandwiches, carrot sticks and tomatoes.

Games

Don’t prepare too many games as you will end up disappointed by the amount of participation. Kids will tire themselves out without your help. Also, it is worth remembering that children have a much shorter attention span and so over-loading them with activities will have a negative effect on their behaviour. Try to arrange a mixture of loud and quiet games to balance the day out. Musical chairs and pass the parcel can be accompanied with storytelling and face-painting.

A children’s party should be fun, colourful and all about the kids, however don’t over-organise it. Children will always find things to keep them entertained; keeping the pressure off you to organise something spectacular. If the kids have smiles on their faces, then you will too.

Collate your memories in a scrapbook

Your offspring’s childhood is something that you can’t get back once it’s gone, so it’s important to keep records of your memories. You’ll love looking back on these in future years and it’ll give your child a great indication of what their life was like when they were young.

A great way in which to do this is to create one or two scrapbooks. These are a great vehicle for pulling together mementos, photographs and letters; making something wonderful you can look back on together for years to come. What exactly will you need to get started, though?

Photo Books

Photographs
For the first few months/years of your child’s life, take two of every picture. That way you can fill the photo albums and pad out your scrapbooks. Also, you should mix some relevant images in with those of your baby. Stock photo sites can provide a great selection of images of hearts, baby gear and anything else-child related. This gives your scrapbook some extra personality and also takes the hassle out of having to hunt for things to fill that one irritating space lying empty.

Mementos
These can comprise anything from the label of the first jar of baby food you bought to the first receipt for nappies. It’s basically anything that means something to you or marks a milestone. You could think about putting in their first sock, or their favourite dummy. The key is to put some imagination into it and think outside the box.

Scraps of craft paper
Pulling together a few coloured scraps of craft paper and some glue will really help make your scrapbook look pretty. You can buy these at pretty much any craft or arts supplies shop, or perhaps in some newsagents. You don’t have to spend a fortune; just buy a random selection and add them in as you see fit.

The Ultimate ‘Green’ Newborn Gift?

Labour MP Frank Field sent an unusual newbaby gifts to prime minister David Cameron and his wife Samantha in August – a piece of rainforest.
The MP, who was appointed by the Conservative PM to head a commission into poverty, sponsored the conservation of a plot of Amazon rainforest on behalf of the couple’s newborn daughter Florence Rose Endellion Cameron through the charity Cool Earth.
Florence Cameron was born prematurely on August 24 at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro, where the family were spending their summer holiday
So-called ‘staycations’ in on’es home country are themselves a green trend.
Cool Earth director Matthew Owen said: “Frank Field organised an acre of rainforest to be sponsored in the name of David Cameron’s new baby as a gift to mark this wonderful occasion.
“As the hospital where Samantha Cameron is recovering is on the doorstep of Cool Earth’s offices in Cornwall, I delivered the gift in person on behalf of Frank who sent his very best wishes.”
TV gardener Joe Swift and designer Vivienne Westwood are among the charity’s fans, but some have called it a form of neo-colonialism.
‘Green’, ‘organic’ and ‘sustainable’ toys, such as traditional wooden toys, are increasingly popular as concern over the environment and global warming increase.

Curtains And Other Tips For Helping Your Baby Sleep

For many parents, the first few months of a new-born’s life can be exhausting. It is impossible to get a good and proper night’s sleep whilst a child is having a difficult time sleeping too; if they are unable to sleep they will be vocal in their inability to do so. As such, there are a number of solutions a parent can undertake which can help the baby gain better slumber and with this help themselves get better sleep.

Curtain helping Your Baby Sleep
Blackout Curtains

One thing that can keep an infant awake all night is any excess amounts of light – this means that all lights in a room, such as TV monitors, can cause disruption and so can illuminations from the streets. Blackout curtains are a great way of blocking out lights such as street lamps, car headlights and the sun as it rises in the morning. As such it could be worth investing and installing theses curtains.

Pre-sleep Preparation

Although it is advisable that a child should undertake some form of physical activity during the day – as this is found to help children sleep easier – it is for the best that any sport or play should take place some degree before bed time. The calmer a child is in the evening the more likely they are to get to sleep. A good idea would be to clear some time before sleeping is scheduled to commence to remain calm and quiet.

Consistent Sleep Patterns

Once a child gets old enough to speak they will oftentimes try and negotiate a later sleep time.  This, however, is a bad idea – consistency is often a great idea for helping sleep. Establishing a regular pattern of slumber will help the child get to sleep and it is important that a child establishes a set time at going to bed and a set time of waking up.

Bed Time Routines

Children are more likely to fall asleep if they have a routine they can go through every night. Sometimes this may take the form of a bath, a book before bed, a glass of milk; whatever the cue some children have Pavlovian responses to these actions and they can help the child achieve slumber in a much easier way.

Noises

For some it is easier to achieve sleep when there is a noticeable absence of noise in a room whereas some children may sleep easier whilst accompanied by ambience or soothing noises. This could be an air conditioner, nature music or something else. It may be an idea to experiment to see which sounds your child best responds to.

A solid good night’s sleep is not easy for some infants and children. As such the aforementioned routines and practices, such as blackout curtains, can really help. Trial and error of a combination of these tactics is the way forward and once the correct combination has been found the resultant sleep is beneficial to the child and the adult too.

Log Cabins – A Great Option for the Perfect Playroom

As a new parent, you will no doubt know by now that the latest, and smallest, addition to your family needs a lot of room. As your family has grown, you may have realised that you do not have enough space for its changing needs. You do not have to move, however, just because you need an extra room. The solution is to create a beautiful focal point for your garden by installing a sturdy, affordable log cabin .

Log Cabins

A home that once seemed spacious can seem cramped but adding on an extension can cost tens of thousands of pounds and require lengthy and complicated planning permission in some areas. Getting someone reputable to do the work is another challenge. In the end, many families simply give up and make do with what they have because of the expense and the hassle. A log cabin can be a great, affordable way to get the perfect playroom, giving you that extra bit of room you need after your new arrival.

A log cabin can actually add to the look of a home whilst providing the extra space your family so desperately needs. These beautiful and economical alternatives to messy and expensive construction projects have a contemporary look that is a superior alternative to yesterday’s concrete or metal sheds or garages. Also, as your bundle of joy gets older and starts to paint, scribble and generally make a mess, log cabins are a great way to contain that that mass and keep you house in pristine condition.

As the children grow and a playroom is no longer needed, the building can be easily converted to meet your, or their, needs. For example, why not turn it into a home gym, art studio or perhaps a study?

These cabins also add value to a home when it is time to sell. Families in every stage of life enjoy having more space.

Many families with children must confront space issues, but when they examine the choices available for getting it, they often get frustrated because a little extra space can cost a lot of money. One of the least expensive ways to get a playroom to add enjoyment to your home is to get a log cabin for the garden. Since it is also one of the quickest and most appealing alternatives to an extensive and messy extension, it is very likely the right choice for your family.
